Sanlorenzo 74Steel Flagship: 72m Diesel-Electric Superyacht with Expanded Beach Club and Owner’s Deck

Sanlorenzo unveils flagship 74Steel: a new pinnacle

Sanlorenzo has released full details of the first flagship 74Steel superyacht ahead of her launch this week. The new 74Steel series already has three hulls sold and a fourth under negotiation; owners of subsequent launches are specifying bespoke interiors, alternative layouts and even different bow configurations, which have altered the overall length on individual units. The yard positions this vessel as the line’s flagship and a step into a larger category while retaining Sanlorenzo’s design approach.

The 74Steel measures 72 metres and carries a gross tonnage of 1,900GT, making it six metres longer than the yard’s previous flagship, Attila. The project—sold through Edmiston in November 2021—has been framed by Sanlorenzo’s leadership as a deliberate response to assumptions about large yachts. As Massimo Perotti, Sanlorenzo chairman and CEO, put it, the company is “challenging the idea that ‘size equals excess’” and intends to apply the same refinement and precision expected from its smaller models to this larger platform.

Hybrid diesel-electric propulsion and design partners

Sanlorenzo collaborated with Zuccon International Project and Francesco Paszkowski Design, with Margherita Casprini contributing to the project’s design language. Engineering for the yacht’s diesel-electric propulsion was developed in-house in collaboration with Siemens Energy; that system is a defining technical feature of the 74Steel and underpins many of the vessel’s layout decisions. The propulsion architecture reduces the footprint of traditional machinery spaces and shifts how internal volume can be allocated.

By freeing up technical volume, the diesel-electric arrangement enables larger guest and leisure areas than would usually be possible on a conventional yacht of similar size. The yard highlights the beach club and spa as direct beneficiaries of this layout freedom, where spaces normally reserved for machinery have been repurposed for recreation and wellness. The overall integration of naval architecture, styling and engineering was intended to balance operational efficiency with onboard comfort and flow.

Expanded beach club, spa and owner’s deck lifestyle

The 74Steel’s wellness provision is extensive and takes full advantage of the yacht’s 13.1-metre beam. The wellness deck incorporates a massage room, sauna, Hammam plunge pool and a family room designed for younger guests, presenting a comprehensive spa complex rather than a single compartment. These spaces are intentionally scaled to provide a residential feel and to serve multiple guest groups simultaneously.

The owner’s suite is configured as a private deck that includes a dedicated hot tub, alfresco dining area, two spa-inspired bathrooms, a lounge and a private office. Guest accommodation is concentrated on the main deck with lounge spaces and five large cabins, while the sundeck is set up as the principal social hub, featuring a bar, forward firepit, hot tub and sunpads; a transparent glass windbreak beneath the hardtop protects the area from the breeze. Complementary features include formal dining on the main deck, a touch-and-go helipad and two amidships tender garages that house a 10-metre Pascoe limo tender and a crew tender, plus a full complement of water toys.

Market impact and Sanlorenzo’s production momentum

Sanlorenzo frames the 74Steel as a strategic statement for the brand. Perotti described the project as “pivotal” and “our most ambitious project,” saying it represents “elegance, restraint and the purity of living life at sea.” The 74Steel’s introduction extends the yard’s capabilities into a higher tonnage segment while maintaining a Sanlorenzo design identity and an emphasis on bespoke owner choices.

The new flagship arrives while Sanlorenzo manages a substantial order book: BOATPro reports 46 superyacht projects on order or actively under construction, including three units in the new SX120 series. With the first 74Steel now revealed and the launch scheduled this week, the immediate next steps for the programme will be sea trials, final fit-out and delivery sequencing for the sold hulls, followed by continued customization for later hulls as owners finalise layouts and bow specifications.
