Italian Shipyard Delivers Wellness-Focused Motor Yacht With Hybrid Propulsion
Italian shipyard Tankoa Yachts has announced the launch of its latest custom superyacht project, the T52 Vitruvius, now christened Spirit. The 51.5-metre new build, previously known as Project Secret, touched the water at the yard’s facilities in Genoa on 11 July at a ceremony attended by her owners, guests, the Tankoa management and her construction team. The new-build project was commissioned by a Canadian owner, introduced by Albert McIlroy from Optimusnavis, with construction beginning in 2022. Following her launch, the yacht is now entering the final construction phase, with sea trials and technical testing underway ahead of delivery to her owner later this year.
The full-custom project was brought to life in collaboration with British design studio Vitruvius Yachts, led by Philippe Briand and Veerle Battiau, who were responsible for her naval architecture and exterior design. Inside, her interior is courtesy of Ancona-based studio FM Architettura. According to the shipyard, the yacht’s design represents a new interpretation of luxury, prioritising wellbeing, privacy and a close connection with the water. Spirit’s defining feature is her wellness-focused beach club, which is centred around a large gym and spa area that can also be enjoyed while underway. The space opens directly onto a spacious aft terrace, with a nearby stern plunge pool and fold-down side platforms further enhancing the onboard experience.
Inside, Spirit’s interiors, which remain private, are said to complement the yacht’s architectural philosophy via a palette of natural materials, soft textures and understated detailing. Careful attention has been paid to maximise the natural light on board, designed as such to enhance the feeling of calm while creating open sightlines and strengthening the indoor-outdoor connection. A glazed stern door, which is flanked by fixed glass panels and opens in two sections, and full-height glazing along the yacht’s profile ensure ample daylight and panoramic views at all times. Accommodation is for up to 12 guests across six cabins, with additional quarters for a crew of nine across five cabins.
Equipped with a full-hybrid propulsion system by E-motion, Spirit is expected to reach a top speed of 17 knots with a comfortable cruising speed of 15 knots. The project also benefited from noise and vibration consultancy by van Cappellen Consultancy to ensure additional comfort while underway. Tankoa Yachts CEO Vincenzo Poerio remarked that the launch represents the culmination of years of hard work and collaboration. BOATPro indicates that Tankoa Yachts has 11 yachts currently under development, including its 61-metre full-custom superyacht Project Dream, demonstrating the Italian builder’s continued momentum in the custom superyacht market.
