Damen Yachting Launches Third Unit in the Amels 80 Series
Dutch shipyard Damen Yachting has marked a significant milestone with the launch of the third unit in its acclaimed Amels 80 series, known as Project Zurich. The 80-metre superyacht was launched at Damen’s second build facility in Vlissingen-East and is now en route to the main headquarters in Vlissingen City for final outfitting, with delivery anticipated later this year.
Project Zurich was secured by its owner shortly after the model’s unveiling in March 2022 and boasts a number of spectacular unique features that distinguish her from her sisterships. This launch follows closely on the heels of the second unit in the series, the striking “dolphin blue” Netto II, which entered the water just two weeks prior. The first Amels 80, Pangea, was delivered in October of the previous year. The Amels 80 represents the largest offering within Damen Yachting’s popular Limited Editions range. The yacht’s exterior design is the work of Espen รino, a long-time collaborator with Amels, while the naval architecture was developed in-house by Damen Yachting.
Among the standout features of this 2,175 gross tonnage superyacht is a 200-square-metre sundeck that includes a generously sized jacuzzi, a dedicated owner’s deck, and a foredeck helipad, catering to the demands of luxury and convenience. The beach club is a particularly notable space, designed as a fully-fledged waterfront lounge with unfolding sea terraces on three sides. It offers direct access to a gym, hammam, and sauna, all illuminated by the 6.5-metre glass-bottomed pool located on the main aft deck above. The interior design of Project Zurich departs from the Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design interiors of the first two hulls, featuring a bright and custom aesthetic crafted by an award-winning design team whose identity remains confidential. Accommodation is arranged for up to 14 guests across seven cabins, supported by a crew of 21, with ample storage for toys and tenders to enhance the onboard experience.
Sander Peeters, project manager at Damen Yachting, reflected on the launch, emphasizing the complexity and precision required for yachts of this scale. He noted that managing multiple projects of this size simultaneously demands meticulous planning, craftsmanship, and close coordination with the owner’s representative as the team advances toward delivery. Damen Yachting currently has eight yachts on order or under active construction, including five Amels 80 builds, underscoring the strong demand for this series. Project Zurichโs launch reinforces Damen Yachtingโs position in the international yacht brokerage market and highlights the ongoing trend toward bespoke, large-scale superyachts in South Florida and beyond.
As the final outfitting progresses at Damenโs main facility, anticipation builds for Project Zurichโs delivery, which is expected to further elevate the standards of maritime luxury and design. This launch not only adds to the vibrant yacht market in the region but also exemplifies the innovative craftsmanship and market responsiveness that define Damen Yachtingโs approach to superyacht construction.
