First hybrid Amels 80 Pangea delivered from Damen Vlissingen

The first Amels 80, named Pangea, has been delivered from Damen Yachting’s Vlissingen yard and is reported to be en route to Gibraltar. The 80-metre, 2,175GT unit was built on speculation and was sold six months after construction began; the sale was publicly announced at the 2022 Monaco Yacht Show. Sea trials took place in June, which project manager Romke van der Linde described as a “unique opportunity to experience firsthand the innovation, design, and power that this yacht delivers.”

Damen’s commercial executive for North America, Jan van Hogerwou, noted the close collaboration with the owner and their team throughout the build. Brokerage firm Burgess introduced the client and has acted as the owner’s representative during construction; Sean Bianchi, Burgess head of new construction and naval architect, said the owners oversaw much of the design development and that the yacht “will be one of the standout yachts entering into operation in 2025.”

Espen Øino exterior and Sinot interiors shape Amels 80

The Amels 80 exterior is by Espen Øino, while interiors were developed by Dutch studio Sinot Yacht Architecture & Design, marking the first collaboration between these two teams. The model was unveiled in 2023 during a live stream from Amsterdam and represents the largest offering in Damen’s Limited Editions range, with the exterior and interior pairing intended to deliver a cohesive aesthetic and operational practicality.

Key interior and exterior elements include a large stern platform and a beach club equipped with three opening sea terraces that form a semi-enclosed waterfront lounge adjacent to the yacht’s spa, sauna, gym, hammam and massage room. The aft deck features a 6.5-metre pool with transparent floor segments to admit natural light into the beach club below; Espen Øino has said the yacht’s “modern strong lines will look as good in 10 years as the day she is delivered.”

Hybrid propulsion, 5,000nm range and expansive sundeck

The Amels 80 is equipped with hybrid propulsion and a hull and systems package capable of a 5,000 nautical mile range at a cruising speed of 12 knots. The build allows for several owner options related to energy and tenders, including the capacity to carry an electric tender with a fast-charging station installed in the tender garage, supporting lower-emission operation and greater flexibility for short-range transfers.

The yacht’s upper spaces emphasise usable outdoor area, capped by a 200-square-metre sundeck with a circular Jacuzzi forward surrounded by sunpads, a shaded bar and a circular dining table aft. Interior materials and finishes were specified to maintain natural characteristics, according to Sinot lead designer Paul Costerus, who said the aesthetic permits owner customisation while keeping materials “as pure as possible.”

Pangea delivery underlines Amels 80 appeal and market impact

Pangea’s delivery confirms market demand for a large, custom-capable limited-production platform that combines range, guest capacity and a configurable layout. Accommodation is for up to 14 guests in seven cabins, including an owner’s deck that functions as a private apartment with suite, two bathrooms, a private office and an owner’s lounge with breakfast area and library; finishes include marbles, inlays of precious materials and woven metal meshes framed by full-height glazing.

Delivered after a relatively rapid pre-sale and a closely managed owner collaboration, Pangea sets a commercial and technical precedent for the Amels 80 line and for Damen’s Limited Editions strategy. With the yacht now moving to Gibraltar and continued owner-led customisation options available, the next steps are delivery handover, final fit-out where applicable, and the yacht entering operation, which Burgess expects to be notable in the 2025 yachting season.
